Exotic plants - plants that are not native to an area. Exotics can seriously disrupt native ecosystems. For example, in south Florida the exotic melaleuca tree, imported from Australia, has replaced cypress forests in some places. Melaleuca forests lack the rich plant and animal life associated with native south Florida swamps.
